Default Will Gundams ever develop in real life?

Yes, we have all seen the gundam universe and all the flying mechas and beam cannons and lightsabers. But really... will we really see any of those in the future? Giant bodies of armor for a single pilot, turning him/her into a mechanized soldier that can take on an entire company of light infantry?

I am aware of the fact that various nations are making "walkers" or "anthropoid robots" that help with trivial tasks like digging and plowing. But will we really really see automated battle machines that can survive in space and fly at 15215 mph?

It would be fun though, but I doubt that mechas will ever be seriously developed in the future. Instead we will rely on starships and cruisers as seen in Star Wars and Star Trek.

Does anyone disagree with me?
