Lol, for me it was the opposite. I picked up Skip Beat, tried to read it for three chapters, said to myself, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG, this isn't going anywhere, and went to read Tokyo Crazy Paradise. I admit I thought it was boring at first, then into the second chapter, I was like, hey, that boy is a girl? COOL! Finally, a gender bender in which the girl actually looks a boy! And that kept me reading till the first story arc. After she starting kicking ass, I was hooked (even though her first cross outfit was hideous).
After I finished TCP, I moped around for a few weeks, rereading it. Finally, I saw that SB and TCP were by the same author, so I thought I'd give it a go again. Seriously though, Skip Beat is slow as hell until about the 20th chapter. I didn't get into it until the acting class arc. The humor also didn't kick in either. Anyway, I love this author now. Nakamura is the greatest comic of non-gag genre. Super clever.
