| I'm not sure if this is too off-topic, but I heard that Funimation was going to dub the D. Gray-Man anime! I think it's really neat and I'm curious as to how it's going to come out (like who's going to do the voices and such). Anyone have any thoughts on it? |

| Junior Member | Yes they are, and I am personally peeved. I hate American Dubs no matter who does them (with a few exceptions like Death Note and Sailor Moon). If I hear the original Japanese version first I automatically fall in love with those voices because more often than not they fit the characters perfectly, where with English dubs the voices just don't flow with the characters as much. At least in my opinion. That and I liked it when D.Gray-man wasn't as well known as all of the other Shonen anime here in the US. I think that once something becomes "Big" it gets completely ruined, whether it be anime or any other thing. Plus I'm afraid that Kanda will have a voice better suited for Lavi, and vice-verca. (Although the fact that it might be aired on television is great, and if it does air on a television I would definately watch it^^)

I think that in a way Japanese voices are always better because the show was made to be spoken in Japanese, but if a good one is available I prefer to watch the English dub. It's just that I (and probably a lot of people who don't know the language very well) have a hard time fully comprehending the anime when it's in Japanese. Sure, subtitles help, but you don't get the full experience if you aren't used to not only hearing the different Japanese voices, but also the way they express themselves through their voice that are different from the way that westerners do it. It's also hard to tell the difference between them when you're not usually around people who speak the language, and sometimes it feels like I may as well be watching it on mute. Well, anyway, I just wanted to know what everyone thought of the DGM dub specifically not dubs in general. I hope I didn't sound too stupid there. | |
