well, if you take art courses all thru ur life..you'll hear these kind of things all the time >_>"
i could probably memorize my teachers speeches and mash them all together. you have no idea how many times i've heard "no! No! NO! that isn't right!" "more color! be bolder!" "add more contrast here!" "not dramatic enuff! go back and work on it again!" "proportions are wrong, go take a look thru the books." "this is what the 'how-to' books are for!" and so and so forth...=_="
that is the bad and good side of over-enthusiastic teachers. they push you to your limits and make you improve.
which reminds me...i need to start on my practice life sketches again or my other skills will get rusty >_>" your skills may work a different way than mine, but for me, if my life drawing skills get rusty, then everything else, like my manga/cartoon drawings goes along with it...=_=
when you get better with the kind of drawing you're doing now, it's good to do some life drawings to get proportions and perspective into control a bit, especially when creating your own all out awesome drawing. XD lol

Well about the rusty drawing thing, that happens a lot to me 8D
Ive been taking a break for more than a month, and my drawing turned rusty >.>
But I did manage to get it back 8D
Teacher for arts = NONE 8D
I always get 18 below on my art projects DX
I always use Pen whenever I draw, pencil = doesn't work

Teachers for arts at my school are really strict 8D"

i think my art teachers are really easy on marking my work >_> some ppl think thy're being biased...lol i'm just their fave annoying student XD

which is why its usually smart to keep thise 2 apart...>_>
my highschool art teachers hated manga/anime stuff drawn in their advanced classes. so while in class i draw in a diff style and work with the traditional stuff, n keep anime/manga doodling to a min. its good to have a variety to choose drawing in,
like now, im using animation techniques to draw poses...so i have very messyy lines and lots of them and i outline them in last and erase the other lines if i want to make it into a colored or 'finished' piece.

Thats why I use anime style, which sometimes impress them, but the unusual thing is, they sometimes wonder why I always put the characters in a odd pose/position which always gave me a 18 below X,X Hmm... I use Ballpen as my main. Ballpen+Paper = Perfect Win~
Though I suck at using photoshop~ 8D"

All I can say is that, your teacher might hate anime/manga style because their easy to draw, which in my point of view, they just want you to draw something that your used/not used~
