they killed the series of unfortunate events. The characters were awesome, but they ruin the ending plot. I swear i stop reading the novel.

Default Never ever the same...

I love reading so I am sure I am biased, but to me no movie, none, will ever do justice to the book, and I mean never. When there's a movie based on a book, I will definetly try reading the book first and then watching the movie. In case is not posible, I'll watch the movie, but if it left to much murky points or left me wanting more then I'll rush to buy the book.

By far the best job Ive seen so far, was with Lord of the Rings, and I was still not satisfied, and I even have the extended versions But the thing we have to remember is that a book, has: 1) the original thoughts and feelings of the author 2) More room in which to evolve 3) You make up ur own idea about the characters (which I think is the best of the points)

And generally in movie making they abuse these 3 points, especially the 3rd since it will inevitably clash with our own made up movie in our head. So theres no way that a movie will ever be better than a book.
My personal experience for example I saw and bought the movie The Count of Monte Cristo, which is based on the clasic novel by Alexandre Dumas (same guy who wrote the Three Musketeers), well I saw the movie and it was so-so, but since I was by then also collecting and reading clasics I bought the book. I was in raptures with the book, it is almost as big as LOR, and its soooo good, way-way better than the movie! So much that I noticed the movie actually butchered the poor book, I was so mad, that I sold the movie, and I woudn't watch it even if they paid me

Such is the fate of most books turn into movies, sad but nonethe less true...

The films NEVER do the books justice except perhaps Lord of The Rings which is simply epic, whether you read the books or watch the films! ^^,

I also quite liked the Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy too! But it was never meant to be the same as the book and Douglas Adams wrote the screenplay so go figures!

Harry Potter films make me wanna cry in disgust and anger. I really hate those films!

And I almost literally went into a bout of depression after I heard that they made the "His dark Materials" into a movie. and instead of Norrthern lights they called it. . . *shudders* the Golden Compass.

They were some of the greatest books I've ever read and I felt the more you read the better they became and that movie BUTCHERED Pullman's pieces of art!

@ xshadows-r-nothingx.............huh? Isn't the movie Golden Compass was based on one of the books from the series His Dark materials by Philip Pullman...........which includes the books.....Golden Compass, Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass.

I can't believe no one has not saw the movie Storm of the Century.......part of your life has just gone away. The book was written by Stephen King...........The movie is one of the few movies that was made from Stephen King books................another example is the Dream Catcher................or was it Skin Walkers......................I'll get back to you on that.

Ahehehe actually it was originally called Northern Lights but they changed the name of the book when they directed it at an american audience! There's isn't one mention of a compass in the ENTIRE book! *cries softly* Such a fabulous series butchered by the big screen! x[

The best book to movie was the LOTR series.
After the first five minutes of watching Eragon, I swear I cried. It was the worst movie representation of a book that I have ever seen. In my entire life. Even the Harry Potter movies (ugh....) were not as bad.
I can't wait to see what they do to Twilight.....

The best book to movie is The Lord Of The Rings.

The worst has to be Eragon, I was shocked at how bad it was.

I find in almost all cases, the movie always pales in comparison to the novel.

The fact that most movies that are inspired by novels... are just that. Inspired. Which means that have pretty much free reign in which they decide what to include, omit, add and distort. There a very few movies that maintain the plot and ideas originated from the novel in the screen play.

However, in comparison with comics and movies-- I find there to be a difference. Many comics that are made into movies come out splendidly. THOUGH, they too- often stray from the comic's storyline in some way or another.

So, while I will not refuse to go to a movie that was inspired by a novel. I go in, knowing that it will be nor should I expect it to be like the novel.
