| Actually the lotus curse is what makes the character my favourite... Despite his mean attitude and foul mouth, he is the one who is constantly reminded that he is sacrificing his life for the war. Of course, all the other exorcists risk their lifes too, but Kanda is the only one who is subjected to witnessing his life fade away and even consciously continuing to fight knowing that he is closer to death by doing so - it must be awful to always have to calculate how much of his life he has left in order to summon an illusion. :(( In my opinion, it takes a really selfless and strong person to be able to do that. If you think Allen has a sort of martyr complex, then you should really reconsider.

| yes it's someone who sacrifices him/herself for others. it's strange cause it seems like kanda is so much anti everyone he's a good person deepdown  Kanda can't die till the end of the manga that's just something a mangaka can't do... too many people will stop reading d.gray-man...

| mmm, can anyone tell me: who's the person kanda's lookin' for? he mentioned several times that he can't die untill he meet that person. it also been mentioned that that person has something to do with a 'lotus curse' (the 'village's witch' part). any information? |

| Hmm...the truth is Kanda changed a little since the beginning of the series.... at first he didn't act like a martyr, but more like a resigned person...he seemed to have accepted his faith and simply didn't care about the rest. I do agree that actually witnessing your life fade away must be tough but he copes with it pretty well. I like the present Kanda waay more, he's more open to people ^^ and I really don't want him dead T_T he's too cool to die  |

| Hmm, I looked around and I found out that the lotus is basically Kanda'a life force. In turn of giving him strength and healing power, it sucks his life force with each fall of a petal. the tatoo also grows bigger with each use of the third illusion, and that's like the mark or reminder of the time he has left. once the last petal falls, Kanda will lose his memory and begin a new life, with a renewed lotus. i'm not 100% sure, but i think this is right. hope it helped  |
