I always thought that the pages where finite, and made so mad when he wasted space writing in big letters.
Another proof that it is finite is in here

A conversation among shinigami
----"did he seriously drop his death note in the human world?"
----"I heard a human got it before he did"
----"No way, that would mean he would have to either wait till the human died or the notebook got filled up"

so maybe it is supposed to be limited.

so maybe it is supposed to be limited.

That means it must be a mistake by the writer. The how to use it actually states that the number of pages of the Death Note will never run out.
