Think about this... When Light and Ryuuk first met Ryuuk said that any human who writes in the Death note can neither go to Heaven nor hell.. Based on that can u say that Light will become a Shinigami?? and if u think he will.. What do u think he would do... Keep in mind that all Shinigami have their own death note

I will post my opinion and I would like u to do the same.

Since this is the topic I created i guess its only fair to post my opinion first

I think that Light is to stubborn to admit defeat.. Based on his personality. I think Light would purposly drop his Death note in the Human realm in an attempt to find a sucessor to finish what he started. First he would teach him all the things he needs to knw and then try to exact his revenge on Near. If he succeded he would then continue to create an ideal world and rule from the shadows of his succesor.

so i was thinking thats how they could make a sequel but then there wouldnt be a way to stop him

Exactly... And as a shinigami Light could just write Near's real name in his death note. If he killed Near it wouldn't be lengthning anyones life so he wouldn't turn to dust like Rem did. So if they did make a sequal it would be only like 2 or 3 episodes.

Well, Raito went into mu when Ryuk killed him, so when a human Deathnote user dies, there isn't anything else. He was a shinigami in life, and is nothing in death.

Shinigamis' are creatures in the underworld (probably hell), but correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm certain that the world Shinigami belongs to is the "Shinigami Realm", different from "neither heaven nor hell". By "neither heaven nor hell", it probably means that "you are lost in nowhere". (SPOILER) And in the last volume its said that Light goes to "mu" which is "nothingness".

Yes, yes...until the 'mu' explanation at the very end, the natural thing seemed to be that Light would be recycled as a shinigami; that a species that can die but can't reproduce needed some method of increasing its numbers, and this also gave a reason for humans to be able to use the notebooks at all. I mean, Ryuk'sway of having a hang-up about girls when shinigami can't breed was like a holdover from a previous life. However, based on the shinigami we saw, Light wouldn't remember having been human even if he got recycled.

Might retain some measure of his old way of thinking, and try to take over the shinigami world or mess with the human world somehow. That'd be interesting. But a Shinigami-Light who remembered the whole story would be unutterably dull. Which is to say, unstoppable, in a world that had already been wrung to shreds. Alright, actually, now that I'm trying this idea on I'm seeing the shinigami king getting involved as one shinigami tries to take over the human world from the shadows, and all the shinigami raised from their somnolence to arms, and there is war in the bone-strewn Nowhere-Land that spills into the human world...

So, yeah. You could do things with that kind of a sequel. But it would be an inutterably different story.

Well, Raito was a Shinigami in life, so I wouldn't have thought he'd be one in death.

I don't think a Shinigami would ever kill another Shinigami since they couldn't care enough and even if they could work up the desire to do so, it'd be taboo. I also don't think they could get involved in a war on earth or kill loads of humans with selfish desire because that'd invoke the whole "killing humans in order to save other humans" and then they'd turn to dust.

It wouldn't necessarily have to have anything to do with humans exactly, certainly not with saving them, and the shinigami couldn't, as far as I know, kill each other, which would indeed make for a ruddy peculiar war. Maybe bindings and things. Hah, genie bottles. The original genie-bottles were mostly 'I participated in a rebellion against the king of the djinn, and as punishment....' The war would be about the Shinigami King's position, and other suchlike things. Ryuk gives the impression that they weren't always like this, he talks about the state of the shinigami world 'nowadays,' giving the impression that once upon a time shinigami took a lively interest in this or that development in the human world, or had some ocupations other than gambling, and sank long and slow and inextricable into the present ennui, so it would be interesting to see whether they could ever develop interest in anything again. If post-mortem Light did manage to start a war, he'd have accomplished more in that one act than in all the effort of his ultimately empty life.

Meaning from that point it would be a completely different sort of story, having a very different premise than Death Note and a wholly different purpose as chronicle. Even though it would be a war story, just the fact that the shinigami had been induced to make the effort and have the interest for warfare would make it a story about vitality and growing life.

Understand that I find the whole idea ridiculous and counterthetical to the conclusion and tone of Death Note itself. But I'm amusing myself here, if no one else.
