Raito made eh ultimate sacrifice for what he thought was the right thing to do. Think about what YOU would do if something as powerful as the Death Note fell into your hands. Wouldn't you use it to make you're own dreams come true? Maybe not to such an extreme as Raito, but wouldn't you be tempted to at least test it yourself?

yeah but dont you think that it's such a cowardly way to kill someone!
plus it's too easy all you have to do is write down a name and the person is dead, would you really trust yourself with that kind of power?

i don't think it's cowardly...more like...convenient [sorry if i sounded evil just now]
i think if a group of kiras each did some "cleansing", the world would change for the better pretty quickly...
besides, the death note needs to have a lot of power in order for people to acknowledge it.

Default What is that for?...

First I must attempt that you are right. The Death Note is a tool of unpredictable powers. Using it requires responsibility. Otherwise it will turn into a weapon of mass destruction. But isn't it such as Toka said? Setting you yourself aims is one thing, but reaching them another. Different from how high or difficult to get there you must ask yourself wether you would use the DN or not. Light's goal was definetly an extrem high one and in cause of that only to reach with such a powerful thing like his DN. It depends on how you see the world...

Who's Toka? Light was a brat with childish and unexamined convictions. He hated something, and didn't know what it was. (It may have been powerlessness or disorder or boredom or all three.) He loved nothing, and never thought that this was so. He wanted something, and yet could find nothing to want, until he set himself to rule the world, and found that empty, too, and understood himself so little he could not realize even that.

Killing someone from a position of utter safety is definitely cowardly. And convenient. Certainly convenient. But cowardly.

Default Agree and Not so much

I agree with you Trisak in terms of Light. His motivation in some ways, grew into something petty, ala Orochimaru. Whereas Light started out with good intentions and then went off with well, whatever the hell he called it that ultimately fell apart, Orochimaru was the same. A little kid who just wanted to be reunited with his parents. Then he goes off into this, "I like to see things move. Things are so boring when they aren't moving. They aren't worth looking at." K, yeah, Orochimaru is still kind badass but yeah, it's amazing how just a bit of power can cause someone to abandon their own dreams.

"Killing someone from a position of utter safety is definitely cowardly. And convenient. Certainly convenient. But cowardly."

I disagree with this however. In some ways. I think that such a tactic is more so convenient than cowardly. It's not about guts, it's about brains. You take out the enemy from a position that is most convenient. What can be more convenient than the assurance of ones own safety? However, the hands on approach is something I prefer, to be honest with you. Madara from Naruto is a coward. Sending kids to do his dirty work. Pain however gets up in people's grills. That's smashmouth, and I respect that.
