Default Zero Kira

I was watching Code Geass and there are some definite similarities between Zero and Kira. I was wondering, what are some of the similarities you all might find? How are they different? Who is more villainous? I'll also post this in a Code Geass forum to compare.

I watched episodes 1-15 on the Cartoon Network and the rest on the internet. Right now, I'm on R2.

I watch that show every once in awhile. Though...I came in a few episodes late, so I need some clarification here.
Isn't Zero trying to get rid of the people that are the cause for some certain people getting treated like crap or something? (can't remember what they call them) If that is the case then...he's a bit like Kira in that sense too. Cuz Kira was trying to make the world a better place for the innocent (at first) and Zero is trying to make things better for those people and in the process killing a bunch of other people.

All right. Let's have a look at the two of them.

Zero--look, can I just call him Lelouch? Zero Phoenix is 'Zero', and though I'm not even all through the first season, as far as I know Zero is purely Lelouch in a mask, even if Lelouch's personality has been going through changes. Despite having promoted himself to Batman (oh, those vigilante Black Knights with the capes made me laugh), he isn't Batman.

Lelouch is motivated by personal, emotional attachment-associated concerns. Mostly the wish to kill his father and his father's offspring and his wish to protect Nunally, mixed in with a will to power that produced his particular Geass and probably comes from the awareness of being a former crown prince who long ago accepted his inability to ammend the ills of the world. He's selfish and untrustworthy and often brutal, but he recognizes himself as being able to sin, as having sinned, but considers it necessary. He has respect for his colleagues, affection for his classmates, recognition of his debts. He is ridden with illogic, confusion, and conflict, and he takes pleasure in his bloodiest triumphs, even when they are achieved almost without honor, holds his own goals as being of preeminent importance.

Light wants to rule the world and make it a tidy place, with no 'evil' in it. His definition of evil is so vague that it's horrifying, but seems to fall out to 'evil is that which is rejected by established authority' (remember, he is a golden boy, the darling child of the status quo) and, 'Starting now, I am the highest authority.' Light has no emotional attachments to anyone, is ruled by his pride, has no victories with honor and glories smugly in all of them, does not know guilt or the possibility of being wrong, is willing to kill his family members if they are a threat to him.

Both of them use people. Both of them view the masses with a certain detachment born of privileged living, and consider the things they are dedicated to worth making other people die over. They're both childish. But Light is very much more the monster. He is almost everything a human should try not to become: pride, coldness, selfishness, misdirected hate...

Can I throw Akumetsu in for consideration, too? He doesn't have the brilliance or aristocratic perspective of the other two, but he's got a program that involves killing off the bad guys to make the world a better place (Light's line, except Shou actually means it) and doing it at the top (Lelouch's obsession--cut off the head and the snake will die.) He comes at it from a much more proletarian standpoint, with a lot more bells and whistles and a great deal more blood, a slightly better-addressed ideology and an almost non-existent plan for the future, and a really weird view on personal accountability, but he's working the same question. (The series is R-rated but if you can get it, it's good. It's only R for the sick party the bad guys have in the first chapter and all the bloody death.)

Code Geass is somewhat similar to Death Note as with the whole "make the world a better place" but I honestly have to say that Code Geass beats Death Note any day.

Yeah, me too. I think that Lelouch (Zero) is a better character than Light (Kira) and CLAMPs artwork is really hard to beat. On top of that, I did kind of lose just a bit of my enthusiasm for DN when Light folded like that. Man, how shameful!

a lot of people say that light and lelouch are similar, and i can understand why, but there's a clear difference in their personalities. they're definitely not the same. still, they do have similarities.

light and lelouch are both determined, that's for sure...
the really clear difference is their willingness and motivation to achieve their goals.
light had a "the ends will justify the means" kind of thinking, while lelouch stays more focused on each step.
i like both of them. a phrase that i hear a lot is "flawed methods" but they're only taking advantage of the strengths they're given. neither the death note nor the geass was used for pure personal gain. light and lelouch both did what they did for a better world, and i respect that a lot.
