I`ve thought about this some times.If the Death Note ever were to be real,there is no way someone could ever had done what Light has done,cause as far as I know,they don`t announce the names of criminals officially on television,at least not here in Norway....Getting the names from the police`s arcives of course,but like how he in the beginning killed ever criminal announced on tv.

well, stuff in manga is usually pretty different from reality...
if anyone did the exact same thing light did, they'd proabably get caught...
the characters aren't like people in real life...light and L have those unique personalities to make the death note more enjoyable...

but if someone did use the death note in real life, what happens to them would depend on 1. how gullible people are and 2. how discreet kira is.

if people are really gullible, they'll think the killings are some kind of religious cleansing, and they'd just accept it, but if they were really against it, they'd proabably try to find another explanation...
although the death note would be pretty unbelievable, if people really tried to find an explanation, kira'd get caught eventually.

if kira does daily killings by heart attack, that'd definitely arouse some suspicion. but kira is more discreet, and uses different methods of killing, then there's a chance that people would just think that the death rate had gone up, and would blame it on pollution, global warming, etc...

in other words, if someone wanted to be kira, they wouldn't be able to do exactly what light did, but there's still a chance that they could pull it off...as for the tv thing, *ahem* internet.

In my opinion, if the Death note were real. It is possible, infact much easier for people to carry on his plan in real life than in the manga/anime.

L was smart enough to pinpoint Kira's whereabouts and all the way down to withing 100 people in such a short time. There aren't very many detectives with those kinds of abilities in real life.
Not to mention, any other human might be very willing to give up his/her lifespan for the eyes, making their mission much easier.

In Death note, Light was put in the position of convenience, considering he was brilliant and his father was the chief of police. He could observe the polices movements and counter L at the same time.
In my opinion, somebody possessing the Death note in real life, trying to mimic Light would probably be able to do it pretty easily, because not many people would think that a kid sitting there writing in his notebook would be a murderer killing hundreds of criminals.

Im afraid I have to disagree with you're comment about L.Their are people similar to him in real life,me included.People with aspergers syndrome have many traits like him.

Um,I`m not really right person to tell,I dunno that much myself.Depends how much you have,as I said I have 40%. When you speak with a person with asperger you immediately sense that they are special. We can have trouble beeing sosial and be really different from others.But that`s mostly as kids however,you lose alot of it as you grow older.But a known thing is how people with asperger can have a huge passion for something,also our memory is better than that of an average person. Many famous persons through history had aspergers.

there is no regular person who could have figured the location of Kira right down to a certain district of Tokyo in less than a month.
In the real world, only L can accomplish such a feat. Not to mention, what are the chances Kira would be watching TV at the same time that is happening? In my belief, a person acting as Kira would first have to fit the criteria of the Shinigami.
If the Shinigami grew bored with them, they would kill them and move along. So, that would mean the person would have to be relatively smart (hopefully). Which if that person were smart enough to live by the basic rules of somebody possessing a Death note.
they would know A. not to reveal themselves to anyone. B. not to share their Death note. and C. not to kill people who can be traced back to them.

So, if somebody can keep this in mind, they could kill just about anyone and not get caught. Or thats just my belief.
