i already started a thread asking who should've won, but this is: who did win?

even though i'm a kira supporter all the way, i still think the only clear winner was ryuk. he was the only one who didn't lose anything. plus, to him, it was all just a game. he started it when he dropped the death note, and he ended it when he killed light.

hmm i agree. i think Ryuk is the best. evil fella lol. Light was through and through a victim of Ryuk from the very beginning since Ryuk knew whatever outcome, Light's life will be his in the end. and he knew, a shinigami like him - he would never fall in love and dispose of himself for a human

i wish Light/Kira won. he was amazing. although evil but he was the protagonist and he will grow on you when every chapter/episode (anime) has him. i was rooting for him all the way. and hoping Misa x Light will happen. xD haha!

First, I'd like to say great signatures! Also, I too have been more of a Light supporter but I have to say, to me, the clear winner was L. Although he died, he said earlier in the series that he was certain that he would be victorious. There was also talk of L's victory via Near. Near talked about how neither he nor Mello could surpass L, but by working together, they were able to defeat Kira, thus making L victorious. Also, when Light was dying, he saw L standing before him. "No one is taller than the last man standing," and I think L's appearance symbolized his ultimate victory over Light.

Brilliant! This is exactly the point I wished to make.

The Shinigami too, as the original poster remarked, are 'winners' in so far as they remained sufficiently detached (thus Rem is no winner). However, them being 'external' to the affairs they observe, this sort of 'winning' is more akin to a movie-goer enjoying a quality movie at the theatre.
