Death note is a very quotable series.
Many peoples quotes have hit a nerve of everyone of you reading this, I'm sure.

There are so many.
L: "Justice will prevail"
Light: "I will create a new world"
Light/Mikami/in letter:

Light: "What is Kira to you?"
Mikami: *smiles* "Kami"

I thought I would make this thread to share some of our favorite phrases from Death note.
I could go on for days listing them off, personally. What do you guys have to say?

Oh, my all-time favorite is Near's speech (One Shot), in which he refuses to take part in any bit of the 'deferior' Kira situation. Shortly after, I believe, the perpetrator committed suicide.

Here is another:

"This world is rotting."

Yeah... those were nice speeches.

But it was something about Light's letter to Mikami that I consider it my favorite.
Just the way the episode was.

it showed those words on the screen,
"What is Kira to you?"
and Mikami smiled.
"Kami..."

I know what it was... it was that brief but solid connection--the deep intuition between a God and His believer. The concrete and instant faith is amazing... and it was displayed to a fault in that quote. A wonderful scene, indeed.

I think it's safe to say that many (if not all) of the scenes in Death Note can be thought of as fascinating and significant.

I especially feel good for Near (can't help it somehow... he reminds me of my brother xD) in this scene:

Near: Yes. We've abducted them.

SHOCK! Then it gets better:

Light: Near... For what?
Near: Insurance.

I could have kissed Near for that cheek

He's much more aggressive than L, that's for certain. I also love the bitter smirks the two of them wear after having this exchange. Near's very playful yet serious at once... it's hard to figure the chemistry of his mind.

And here's another from Light. I find this extremely invigorating :
Light: Near... it is a sure thing that the whole world is soon going to be completely tailored for Kira. So we have to catch Kira as soon as possible. I agree with you on this.

I have to admit, Near is quite a detective.
He had Light figured out quickly, and then decided to just mess with him for a while.

The last 7 episodes are incredible for what Near does.
But in saying that, Light was the same. Countering almost every move... Its... indescribable.

I have one question though.... Why exactly did Near abduct Mogi and Misa?

Because he hadn't had much of a grip on Light's motives (it was basically one scheme vs. another simultaneously), and decided to take them for 'insurance'--but he was mocking Light as well, because by saying that he was taking them for emergency, he was also implying quite clearly that he knew 100% that Light was indeed Kira.
