Default Could I Borrow Your Pen?

If you were caught shorthanded and had to write with any tool in the DeathNote... What would you use? This is keeping in mind that anything that remains legible upon the paper after the tool is removed is eligible. (And I was asked a question about whether a marker would 'bleed' through the pages of the DeathNote... I don't think it would, as the paper looks remarkable thick and sturdy.)

Smile Sign me up... no, no wait!!

Wow, what a question?? Hmm, I wonder if erasable markers would work and how would that effect the Note? Ooh! I know! CRAYONS! What happens if you draw pictures in the Death Note?

To what extent could you use a computer printer? (i would think that a typewriter or a printing press would work). Could you program a computer to perform the function of killing?
How about a fully automated system that rips a page out of the everlasting DN, displays a photo along with the name on the monitor, and types or robot arm writes on the DN page? (That machine would have no human imput as to the names involved, it would just pull names and pictures off either randomly or systematically. Just hit start and it autodials us to death.)

Question Thinkin' Overtime:-)

Once again when I think I have something completely mastered, you throw the most anal kinks in to have to make me completely rethink every assessment I came up with prior. My answer on this one, however, is that no, you can't use completely automated machinery to do the task, as the DeathNote is very adamant that you must 'have the face of the person in your mind when you write his.her name'. You could argue that the pictures you mention would operate in that capacity, but I personally have my own doubts Try it, if you feel so inclined

And despite the little tidbit I teased into my story on the Rambling page, I don't believe you can kill pets with the DeathNote either, once again due to the rigidly strictured wording of the rules. (Now people know that, they can pick up the story as I can't post after myself:-)

Are you implying that there are pet shinigami and pet death notes? (this is going into a scary but adorably cute direction.)

What if we get into the futuristic stuff that I was implying in the DN:TNG thread? A cyborg would be close enough to a human to use a death note and run the autoDN machine.

I had been meaning to tack onto that, but I wasn't sure in which vein you were asking, because from a story perspective you would have to orchestrate the whole DeathNote gets back into society etc.

Seeing what you meant in a more simplified manner, it can still get pretty complicated because while my original assessment would have been 'no, technology can't reproduce to the DeathNote's specifications', you then could make the assessment that all human life is based on the fundamental elements that drive technology (no pun intended).

could you cut out letters and glue them on to a DN page like a cliche ransom note?
