there was also an idea to make them ls twin sons. i think part of the reason they were lish was to show that even in death l was lights greatest foe and it was kinda of a metaphorical rebirth. through his death, in a metaphorical sense, he rises again as two beings two fight kira. this is also like the hydra, you cut of one head two more arise.

*OT* Technically, they should all have British accents. That bugged me. Wouldn't it have been cool if they had British accents? I can imagine L with a Londoner's accent, and Mello with a cockneyed Spike-like accent. Maybe Near was from Manchester...
