| If I recall correctly, the anime goes further than the manga(which is rare) because the manga went Hiatus for such a long period of time. It just started again recently(well a few months now..), the manga that is. The anime basically followed the manga until the last arc, I think but not 100% sure since its been a long time that I seen the anime or read the manga....

| the anime sucked. it had a whole bunch of stuff that wasn't in the manga. the manga came first then the anime. and the anime ended first. the anime was made from the manga. good thing it ended first. the anime was just stupid.

| I heartily disagree. The two are different, and cannot be adequately compared to one another. The anime, seen alone, is flawless. The beautiful artistry of voices, music, images, and cgi creates an experience very rarely seen in ANY series. The swinging, somewhat archaic feeling music sets a perfect backdrop against the old European-esque town. The themes of cold and fear, and those of the somewhat atonal electronic pieces create a sense of dark foreboding energy, and come the art thievery parts, music representative of old film noir fits the time perfectly. The pieces of love and sadness fit the moments perfectly as well, and I'd say challenge any theme of love EVER to appear in anime. I'd say perhaps the only anime that do music better than D.N. Angel are the works of Studio Ghibli, and it's not really fare to compare any anime to that of Ghibli in any case. The anime gets across the ideas of the story in a slightly different way, and begins to wrap everything up as it closes in a much faster way than the manga. The anime was always prepared to end the way it did; it didn't just run out of material and have to slap together a weak ending. From the very first episode, we see scenes of the final duel between Dark and Krad. Yet, by the time I watched episode 24, I had forgotten all about that first episode, and was prepared for the series to end with that beautiful credits sequence during "Caged Bird", drawing back everyone and everything that's happened over the course of the series. Freedert's last words and gift are evident that this series is not about the war between Niwa and Hikari as much so as the romance of Daisuke and Riku, and the importance of the people we love. If it ended there, I would have been completely satisfied, despite the loose ends. Sometimes not everything has to be wrapped up, and this seemed like a fine ending point, with future promise. But it wasn't the end. The true ending, two episodes later, pulled almost all the loose strings back together into one finishing climax that is as much about the importance of life and the people we care about and the people who care about us as it is about resolving the conflict between Light and Darkness. And the final theme, "Guidepost", once again proved the ultimate supremacy of the musical themes in the series, and brought tears to my eyes. This series was beautiful, and I would change none of it. Having watched it many times, first on Animecrave, and later on my own DVDs of the entire series, I can now look at it with a bit of a more critical eye. The motivation of Police Chief Hiwatari is never fleshed out. It took a bit of time for me to understand the events of the night Mio sealed the necklace, and the final fate of Mo and how she did what she did. Mio, the anime-only character, was probably the most difficult character to understand, or at least the events around her, but in the end, it's all explainable. The only thing I'd want to add to this series is more backstory behind the Police Chief - why he was changed by the artworks, and what was his original motivation for capturing Dark? These are left unanswered, unfortunately. For questions like this, I turned to the manga. But the manga is a very different medium, and despite it filling the story out more, with more story arcs and plot developments, moving beyond Freedert and dealing with the Hikari family and Krad moreso, I still can't help but feel that the manga Daisuke is not the Daisuke I know and love from the anime, and the cast are different, though with some similarities. The anime is ripe with filler in the first half, but it's in those very filler episodes that I fell in love with this series. It's the quiet moments, the stories of St. White's Festival and the Garden of Vows, and that of Erlich Van Vanderbough, and the Temple of Neptune; the list goes on. There's something really magical created in these sad, but uplifting tales, surrounded by some of the best music ever made for anime. Apparently the game "Crimson Wings" follows the events after the anime, so I may have to play that sometime. The anime and manga are different media and canons; they tell a slightly different story. It wasn't just stupid. It was a work of art all in it's own. |

| wow. great discribing of the anime. i still think it's stupid. the voices didn't really match it at all. daisukes voice, well, if you tried any other voice it wouldn't fit, but for some reason his voice was a bit wierd.(english version. i'm talking all about the english version) and the harada sisters. omigawd. their voices were so annoying. and risa was just plain stupid. she needs some smacking in the face to bring her to her senses that her and dark are not a love-dovey couple. as for the cgi stuff, it is an ANIME. not real life. if it was real life i would be exstatic. the music.... i think... are not that good. well, some of the songs were really good and sad. like that freedert part. but i think that there are more songs that are sadder. and a lot of those filler parts were reeeeeeeaallly stupid. like that the garden of vows. i hated that one. i guess, mio was okay. didn't really like her either. one thing i thought it was stupid was that, daisuke other friend was not really ever seen in the anime. only once! it was sad. and i just don't think that the anime was as good as it was in the manga. but that's just what i think of the anime. i could like the anime like you do, but i don't. i apreciate that you told what you think of dnangel in a nice way. i know for sure that the manga is not base on the anime. i liked the anime at first then i read the manga and realised how stupid the anime was. "it was a work of art all in it's own." i get where your getting at, but my question is: do you mean it litterally?

| I think I agree with Marandahir^^ the anime alone is beautiful. But when you know the manga it could be a liitle ...dissappointing. Although I have seen the anime first., the first picture I have seen from DNAngel was from the manga. In the end I like both. The have both their strong and weak points and hardly any anime I´ve seen follows the manga story line ( except Loveless but the manga goes on after the anime ends)
