I read Fruits Basket twice now and something got to me... I just realize at one point in the manga it state that Shigure and Ren-san slept together... how can that be? she's not part of the 12 animals or God. So therefore, Shigure transform right when they touch?...just something that I was thinking of... what does everyone think?

yeah I wondered about that too. maybe they didn't hug or anything, although that doesn't seem to be the case if you check out the panels carefully?

Not that I'd know personally or anything but as Haru said you can do it with out actually embracing.
If you had this question you'd have to ask how Akito and Kureno did it too.

Kureno was release from the curse remember, that's why Akito was telling him not to leave her. She knew that he wasn't one of the 12 animals anymore... Kureno felt sorry for her and stay with her beside the fact that he wasn't curse anymore...I just found it odd that the author miss this point about Ren and Shigure...maybe because she's Akito(god) mother that's why it's okay for them I guess...

you have a point, I used to think that when they said they could embrace in the sohma family I tought that included the other sohmas that aren't cursed but apparently not
