Did you think he was going to die!

Did you feel bad for him or worse for Akito at that moment?

Did you think the bird was really tired (like Uo-chan said) or just ran into a window

Well I didn't think he was going to die to be honest but I was pretty shock because I was near the end of the manga and I was like... 'this can't be happening...' O.o But yeah... I'm glad he didn't... XD

Naturally, it would be cruel to kill Kureno and leave Uotani alone, especially since the plot had been slowly pushing multiple other couples together.

There was no reason why Takaya (the author/artist) would have held a grudge against such a kind, spunky character as Uotani (and I think she also understood the response her fans would have had if Kureno were to have died), so therefore the object of Uo's affections lived.

Some people (like me) may feel mildly irritated with the crutch that Kureno now has to depend on, though it can be understood that giving the stabbing a lasting physical result is a display of unfortunate consequence by means of the anger and suffering that not only Akito felt, but that most other characters in the story had felt at one point as well.

The damage done to Kureno is merely demonstrating the fact that the torment and hurt one person feels can easily affect others in a real and sometimes permanent way, whether the harm is done physically or even physcologically.

Despite the fact that most characters in Fruits Basket had themselves been affected by the circumstances of other people in their lives, each of them managed to make amends with their pain and find happiness in the end, which is largely what makes this bittersweet love story so popular.
