i don't believe there are japanese zodiac animals....and i think that more people are familiar with the chinese zodiac, so the readers wold understand what they're talking about.....maybe. it just seems more practical to use chinese zodiac. like i said, i don't think they have a zodiac. In fact, i think only the chinese created something like that. don't know for sure though...its not like i know everything there is to know.....now I'm blabbing.....i think ill stop now.... ^^ '

OPTION 1.The Sohma Family curse is very, very old. Probably so old, that it originated in China, and was brought over to Japan when they (the family with the curse) immigrated. I mean, they do talk about the origins of the curse right when God was still on earth, so it must be very old. OR-- OPTION 2.Either that or I'm not remembering a part in the series where it mentions the curse DOES start in Japan. But anyways, even if it WAS a new(er) in-japan-made curse, the Japanese use the Chinese Zodic. I mean, they celebrate Chinese New Year. Ah,, it seems I rambled. Gomen, ne?

The Chinese zodiac is the Japanese zodiace. A lot of things like date and time systems (as Yuki tells Tohru the zodiac orginally was) were adopted by the Japanese from the Chinese seeing as they had a rule over them for a long time.
