for me,luffy didn't turn into stone not becoz he's closing his eyes..
in order to turn someone into stone,all the man or woman must first admit the charming of the hancock actually,that hoe she turn all the marines crew..that why momonga told the crew "don't let ur guard down"..he stabbed his own hand just to make sure he's not affected by providing the pain to himself...
in luffy's case,he just too dumb that he was not affected by anyone charming/beauty...that why when the mero mero power didn't work on luffy,boa marigold said ".....none,old or young ,male or female,could fail to be captured by ur beauty"..in which i think, someone must have admit the beauty of hancock before turning into stone,although slightest...
just my opinion...

oh i see.. but i think it's not because luffy's biting his lip. maybe because he dont see Boa as a beautiful woman? maybe that meromero ability only affects on a person who is lured to her beauty? well, that vice captain stabbed himself maybe because he's trying to get off his attention from Boa, so he wont be lured by Boa's beauty - focusing on his hand's pain.
well, that just my assumption though. it can be wrong since the one who makes one piece is eichiiro oda not me.

I think that the Mero Mero Merrow only effects people who feels desire for the user, and Luffy feels no desire for Boa.

I've also noticed that the Shichibukai are compatible with the Seven Sins:

concerning the haki ability I think it's an ability wich provides the user with the power to nullify the devil fruit users ability

if u remeber all the potential HAKI users up till now :
1/ dragon stopping captain smoker from capturing luffy
2/ shanks receiving mihawk
3/ shanks entering whitebeard's ship
4/ the fist of love of vice admiral garp when hitting luffy (everyone exclaimed : a hit that could hurt luffy's body !!)
5/ rayleigh fighting kizaru

all thes occurences make me think that this ability is someething really strong people in the world of one piece use to nullify the devil fruit abilities of their opponenets and amplify their own

there's a possibilities of that theory to happened.
then if it's use to nullify other's DF power
considering haki has several different types
then it cant be used to all kind of DF power?

and the newest chapter was really good! luffy saves the gorgon sisters even tough they tried to kill him, luffy im going to hug you for that. and boa cried, wew. i wonder why did she cry?
