Really...there are too many main characters already. Ever since Franky joined, Oda-san has been struggling to distribute page time in a way that covers everyone adequately and doesn't slow down the story, with the result that anything that doesn't have either Luffy or Zoro in it usually gets rushed through. He's hit a critical mass of main characters and seems to be gravitating back the the original pair from volume one. Not good. At this rate most of the crew will act only during those group scenes he's such a genius at, and he's losing control even of those. >> Rayleigh can't join; he's too strong and too old; his personality wouldn't fit into the dynamic and his power wouldn't fit into the plot. I don't know about alchemist, but a chemist might be nice, to make gunpowder for the ship, then again as the doctor, Chopper should beable to do that, if he learns how (assuming he doesn't already). Also I'd be supprised if Usop, as the practical joker/inventor didn't know a little, at least how to make some sort of explosive for his slingshot.

Another good point, if thats true, then I doubt there will be any new main charaters until at least after the Red Line. Also I'm fairly sure right after this arc/during, they will head to go help out Luffy's Brother. So if a crew member isn't added soon, I doubt there will be one added for quite some time.

However, I see no problem with that as they got a large enough crew at the moment, that is very flexible and just about everyone has more then one role they play as crew members.
While we would all like to see new crew members, I have to agree with TrisakAminawn and I doubt there will be any new crewmembers for quite some time.

Most likely any crew members for a while will be temporary members, such as Vivy, and many the many others such as her.

Also I'd have to ask where TrisakAminawn got his information.

well hachi will be useful for the reason that more and more DF users joined the group eventually so he could be useful since DF users can't swim
