Shanks can beat White Bread if he didn't lose his arm. It would be SOOOOO cool if we could see Shanks and White Beard Fight! I wonder what happened to Ace though. I wish he didn't die!

I am not as familiar as I would like to be about each character. what are the known powers of each? I've read references on posts that Shanks ate a Devil Fruit. If so did he eat it after he lost his arm and swam luffy back to shore if not how could he have made it back, injured with luffy in tow?

Shanks hasn't eaten a fruit (at least not known at this point). He is able to pour out "spiritual energy" similar to characters in Bleach, where people or animals weaker then them can't stand up to. He has to be a proficient swordsmen because he sparred with Mihawk in the past. And he is strong enough to make the World Government fear him and Whitebeard meeting, and he's one of the Yonkou so he has to be on level with or very close to Whitebeard's.

It might be a draw but it might not since Shanks' generation was after White Beard's. White Beard's generation was the same as Gold-D-Roger so u could say that White can fight with the same strength as Roger and Shanks was on Roger's ship, so the possibility of Shanks losing is around 60-70%

don't know either which chapter it was, but I think it was Ace who said that so you can't rely on that...

btw.: Shanks would win, cause Whitebeard is physically weakened(as you see with all the medical treatment he needs) and so he wouldn't have enough endurance to fight for a long time, and the fight ending soon isn't possible...

Edward need medical treatment. It's true, but it doesn't mean that his body is weak. Maybe...
1. Edward can get angry faster than everyone, so the medical is to calm him. (look when he talk again with shanks, only talking for a while and then their put their sword out.)
2. Edward bloodthirst, maybe the treatment want to reduce his bloodthirst.

And then another reason why Edward win is at chapter 432 page 7. At the Four Emperor, Edward Is The Strongest

If Shanks ate a devil fruit he would not been able to go into the water and save luffy

Edward is on an IV, but he was able to pick up a 5 foot long spearto fight. If he was to old to last in a fight, then he would not have kept that title as the strongest man. Lik with mihawk being the best swordsman.
