Ace would be grateful but he'd still want WB to become the Pirate King.

Shanks was a Member of Gol D. Rogers crew and if I'm not wrong he desperately tried to do something against the execution of Roger, so he must've been loyal...

There is One Thing Absolutely Sure. Portgas D. Ace Never betray Edward (White Bread). He admired him so much. Even Black Beard Ask Ace to Join His Team. Ace refuse it even he would die at Black Beard hand.

Ace is completely loyal to Whitebeard, even if Shanks did save him he would still follow Whitebeard. He would probably owe Shanks and later save him at one point but, if he left Whitebeard for another pirate crew it would probably be the same thing as betraying Whitebeard and Ace wouldn't do that.

If W.B. was killed he would hunt the killer till either one of them is dead, and if he died a normal death he'd probably become an Yonkou himself...

I believe that Ace is still alive due to the fact that the paper that Luffy carries around hasn't completely burned up yet. I believe that Luffy will show up to save Ace, and receive help from Shanks and his crew and Usopp will be reunited with his long lost father.
