How can there be a book of devil fruits that lists the skills granted by each one if there is only one of each kind. This does not make sense because if somebody eats it there are none left of that kind. Any ideas???

well we can say that they can only exist one each tiime: example if luffy dies another person will be allowed to become rubberman( eating the gomu gomu no fruit of course)

actually, i'm also thinking about 'why are they called fruits? does this mean there are trees that grows these devil fruits?' or maybe there's a giant tree that bears these devil fruits and someone saw this tree and wrote all these information to this book? or maybe this devil tree grows fruits every 1000 years so it's really rare ahahahaha just thinking about the possibilities ^^

I believe it's something like Oda described in one of the early pilots for One Piece, where there are tree's that only ripen one fruit every 30 or 40 years, so they have seen them before but just one is eaten every so many years. Or maybe there is an "identify" fruit where they can look at other fruits and find out the names/abilities given.

So i assume it's safe to say that this so-called book u're talking about was written by him

i think its like an a pineapple(one fruit at a time) and the bearer(who eat the devils fruit) became its = SEEDs. so if the bearer is dead, another tree will pop up on his corpse

The guy who is the World Governments scientist( and the reason why the technology far from the 1500's) Vegapunk wrote the book. I do no think that they have clearly given a reason why they know what the fruit does but here are some hypothesis on it

1. They are fruit and from the way they look or features of them he was able to figure out thier properties as taste and ability

2. Maybe the cursed fruits evolve when ever a new one is made( every 30 years one of you said) , so from the newest fruit he found, he was able to trace the past fruit made.

3. He is such an unbelieavable genuis ( meaning ONE PIECE is being One piece) that he was able to discover every fruit and a pattern in them for the new ones to come. Come on he was able to make a cyborg before franky even had the idea.

I think that book write by the great king pirate (Gold D. Roger) who have meet and fight with almost all of the devil fruit bearer. and the power of devil fruit same like law of energy eternity, can't be dismished. when the bearer die, the power of devil fruit will form again and wait for the next bearer.
