i'm guessing but still not certain:
MAYBE watanuki is clow reed. if you look at them, they're physically similar. Both have black hair, have powers, PLUS! Wat's right eye (or left am not sure) is colored yellow since his eye was eaten by the spider; while clow reed's eyes are often closed w/ a single eye glasses on his right eye, getz?
sigh. although I wish clamp would already give us the answer because I'm really really curiouse of watanuki's real identity *sigh*

Omg. I totally thought that the first time I saw Watanuki, but I never thought too much on it cause sometimes CLAMP's characters kinda look alike. That's a really great opinion of it, and how cool would it be if it turned out to be true. Great job!

i've got it! watanuki is eriol's son! that would explain why he looks like clow reed.

umm..correct me if i'm wrong but aren't clow reed's eyes are black? and i thought watanuki's real eyecolour is blue??

I don't think that it explains why watanuki looks like Clow, because Eriol is the reincarnation of Clow and as a reincarnation he doesn't look like Clow. Eriol has just the same presence as Clow.
