I don't remember the Academy as a favour bit so I can't confirm or deny unfortunately.

I think the sibling love between the Kuran parents was just that they fell in love with one another, not that they wanted to keep the blood pure. And I think it's the same with Kaname and Yuuki, although I agree that we don't have a lot of foundation for the love when Yuuki was a human. I think Yuuki loved Kaname intensely before when they were living together, but her love as a human was just a crush. But Kaname was the only other person besides her parents she knew, so you could say that her love wasn't reasonable.

As for the eye thing: I think that's just a convention of manga. I've seen in several other manga that mismatched eyes were the sign of a heretical creature. So, since Rido is supposed to be evil, having him have mismatched eyes is logical, and would immediately indicate to readers that he's evil.

And I bet Yuuki doesn't know Kaname's middle name. ^_^

Well, if he has one, we haven't been told; and they haven't insinuated it anywhere.

I was just making reference to an old joke, which is made about people who become engaged or married without knowing one another sufficiently well. The joke is that they don't even know one another's middle names, so how can they marry?

It's true that Yuuki really didn't know anything about Kaname other than that he saved her life all those years ago. But now that she has re-awakened, she knows everything about him, having grown up with him until the events of 10 years ago.

So, if anything, once she properly assimilates her vampire side with her human experience, her love for Kaname will be deeper - since she'll have all those added memories with him and will know him so much better.

The mangaka has already been hinting at this when Yuuki refers to those arms holding her that she knows so well. But now Kaname's recent actions were making the arms unfamiliar.

We'll see how she feels after he distinguishes himself in the battle to come.

about the whole kaname and yuuki thing, because kaname is yuuki's brother in body but not soul does this mean she is in love with a differnt kaname and what happened to the soul of kaname... yuuki's actual brother?

We don't know what happened to the soul of Yuuki's brother, but presumably, Rido killed it/him.

We've discussed it on another thread, but Yuuki's love for Kaname as a human was not the deep love that the two siblings shared before she was sealed. Human-Yuuki fell in love with the man who saved her life and who watched over her as she grew up (Kaname as we know him), which was arguably still a deep love. She also developed a 'school-girl' crush on him on top of the deep connection she had with him.

In addition, Yuuki now has the memories and deep love of the Kaname she grew up with and knew as a child-vampire. Whether that was Kaname-the-ancestor or Yuuki's brother (now gone), we don't know. At the time that the Kurans died and Yuuki was sealed, Kaname-the-ancestor was in the body of Yuuki's brother; and from the way Haruka addressed him, he had been in there for a while, so Yuuki had fallen in love with Kaname as we know him.

I'm of the opinion that Yuuki's brother was taken out quite early, perhaps before Yuuki was born, and that the Kaname that Yuuki grew up with is the Kaname we know. If this is not the case, the Kaname we know at least has the memories and much of the personality of the brother because of his references to his love with Yuuki as a vampire and their childhood together.

I hope that wasn't too confusing. It's difficult to distinguish who is who both in writing and thinking, because we don't know when exactly Yuuki's brother was taken out and the Kaname-ancestor (our Kaname) was put in, and we don't know if Yuuki's brother was named Kaname or if that's the ancestor's name. I think Yuuki's brother was named Kaname.

If you still have questions / want to discuss this more, I'd suggest using: B!Kaname to refer to Yuuki's brother whose soul was removed and is now gone; and A!Kaname for ancestor-Kaname, the Kaname we know. It might help you in phrasing questions. -_-;;

Ah, Kaname and Yuuki aren't exactly siblings, nor did they have the bond as siblings (for a long period of time). Because, since Yuuki got into the Academy, Yuuki and Kaname didn't recognize each other as siblings (well at least Yuuki). By the time Yuuki regained her memories, she was already in love with Kaname. Hope I cleared things up..

hmm... I disagree.

I agree that Yuuki did love Kaname deeply when they were living together, but I don't think it was a romantic love. I don't think children are capable of such feelings. If anything, she adored her older brother, but the same was felt for her family. Because she was secluded from society, her family members were the only people she knew and relied on. It's only natural to love them. When they were speaking about marrying, it was only childish innocence. If your parents (who are siblings) are married, and you cannot compare it to anything else in society, you'd probably think that you'd marry your sibling as well. Remember that she didn't know anyone else.

And yes, Yuuki did look up to Kaname because he saved her from the vampire and therefore idolized him. She thought that he was a kind vampire, some sort of superhero, who was all good and would never hurt anyone. But that feeling was immediately shattered when he saw Kaname feeding on Ruka. His voice haunted her saying, "Yuuki... you make me cruel." She had flashbacks on the vampire who tried to kill her when she saw Kaname's face dripping with blood. She immediately ran away and met with Zero, who said that all vampires are beasts in human form. She said, "That night, I knew what fear was once again." But she also said, "That night, something changed in me. But there was something that did not change: even now, I still love Kaname-sama."

That's when she started distancing herself from him. She no longer clings to him whenever she sees him, she stopped telling him things about herself, but her feelings only grew.
Isn't it odd? The only thing that drew her to him was shattered, but her feelings stayed and developed. Not to mention, like MangoPies said, they no longer have the bond of siblings. They're not even living as the same species and she fears him. They shouldn't have anything that connects them emotionally.

But later on, she says, "I love him. When I think of him, he's the only thought that fills my head...almost to the point where I lose myself."
That thought cannot be conveyed without intense feelings, and certainly more than what she thought of him when they were living as siblings.

Her heart thunders "just by standing in front of this man." When Kaname asked her if she wanted to be a vampire and stay by his side for eternity, without even thinking, she said yes. She said, those were "words that I always longed to hear, but those are words that I never thought I'd hear."

Those are all when she was living as a human. and without much reason for it, which brings me to my first point for posting this thread. It really is almost like some unexplained spell, as Silver Fantasy said.

And don't forget the issue with their parents. Yeah, the Kurans DON'T enforce intermarrying and preach pacifism. So they should be fine with humans or half-bloods mixing in their family. But remember that the Kuran family has been around for millennia and they all just...happened to marry purebloods? And just happen to convey romantic feelings for their family members without much reason for it? It's not just one or a few generations. If it was, I'd pass it off as coincidental.
