Default Anyone here hear about that Akira live action remake?

The only reason I know about it is I was looking up something on an actor and saw that he would be playing in a movie called Akira as Tetsuo and when I looked it up more i found out it was true that two live action Akira movies were planned and were gonna be based on the manga, not just the anime. I'm excited, even though it'll be weird with american actors. Sure I love American movies and actors, but Akira is based in Japan. But still, I am excited.

Default Yeah

I was watching the Reelz channel and they had a special about that. I think Toby Maguire's production company snagged the rights to the Robotech live action and Speilberg got the go ahead to do Ghost in the Shell. I also heard that they will be moving the plot of Akira from Tokyo to New York. Don't take this as gospel truth, tho; it's only what I remember from watching that special and that was over a month ago...

I think it's nice that anime might become live action on a regular basis because it gives anime fans some relief. I know i'm one of them of those people who gets teased about watching 'pokemon' *roles eyes*

I say if Stephen and the other produces do it, i'm going to support them all the way.

Well we all know how it is when anime becomes live action personally I think CGI all the way. Look at Final Fantasy Advent Children it ruled, but Akira and Ghost in the Shell could be those that turn all of hollywood towards anime. I mean Akira was a great spec to be looking out for, but any others that delve with things of that nature anime wise should just deal with cgi. There are those that you can make that acceptance for that is Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop hell even Trigun with a bit of tweakage via shall i say it once more CGI.

Ya know I heard about that too. I heard that Leo DiCaprio was slated to play the lead in the Akira movie. I guess since he was such a splash in that other Japanese movie The departed that they had to figure, Hey damn right he could play a japanese teen in futuristic tokyo.

First time I'm hearing of it. I was surprised when they said they were doing Death Note and Zelda, but Akira? I think they could pull it off.

The Departed was a remake of the Hong Kong flick Infernal Affairs...

edit: DiCraprio is also not acting in it. He is one of the producers.

That'll be an awesome action movie. I bet that, depending on the director, if they play their cards right it could turn out pretty cool. I hope it won't be weird with American actors.

I stand corrected. Well, apologies.
