| If LIght and Lelouch switched places, would they act in a similar fashion? Both characters are similar in personality and application of their powers (tactics-based, experimenting, and pursuit of higher cause) but come from different circumstances and thus have different aims.. -or- How would Light have reacted if given the Geass power instead of a DN? How would Lelouch have accomplished his goals with a DN?

| Man Behind the Curtain | Funny...I've been thinking about this same thing recently. Hey, ravstrike. What, no takers? This thing's two days old and all... Oh well! I'll go for it! (I've only read a little of the Code Geass manga; on the whole I decided the anime for that one is better, and I haven't finished that, either. Does that make me ineligible for this? I've got all the Death Note manga lined up on my shelf, and I didn't much like the anime of that, so I only watched a little bit. It was all in neutral tones, and almost nothing ever moved! What's the point of animating all that sitting around and talking in the first place? Okay, I'm way off topic.) Lelouch...would not have done at all what Light did, I think. They're both 'bored, genius high school boys,' but Light had had nothing that felt real in his whole life until he got the power of death. That's why he siezed on such an abstract theme as 'kill criminals and take over the world,' and lost much of his interest in that theme as soon as he acquired a nemesis. Lelouch, given the Death Note, would have killed off the 'children of that man' with brilliant, detailed, and extremely useful instructions which would further the cause of the collapse of Britannia, and finally have killed the emperor. A thorough, effective, and almost-complete parricide, which would also serve as the most artistic series of assassinations ever. It would be a different story, but the Death Note is actually much more suited for such a purpose, 'cutting off the serpent's head.' Building a new world with no power but 'murder' and a manipulative personality was never very practical. >> He would also have gone for the eye deal, if there was ever any need to kill anyone outside the family, like random soldiers. He's reckless with his own life the way Light never is. Light...since his intentions, not just his modus operandi, formed themselves around the power, it's hard to be sure where he'd have fired himself with Lelouch's Geass. He would probably have done his best to take over the world in some wise, at some point, for its own good of course...the one-time-use clause would make that tricky, but Light wouldn't hesitate to give people commands like 'be loyal to me for the rest of your life.' Lulu kept that pigtails-girl making her mark on the wall all this time, so it might work. Anyone who's seen more know for sure that it would or wouldn't? Of course, since the Geass you get if you make a deal with CC reflects your personality and deeper desires, Light isn't that likely to have gotten Lelouch's Geass. Something to control other people, sure, but maybe not quite that. What kind of power would you say young, serious-high-school-student, wants-to-be-a-detective-like-his-dad, doesn't-think-much-of-the-human-race, bored-out-of-his-skull-with-life Light Yagami would have gotten? |

| Man Behind the Curtain | But he'd have to go meet every bad criminal to control them, and he wouldn't lower himself to having an army of criminals...although 'Light brainwashes world' is an interesting idea...hm. Think he could get a TV spot and brainwash all watchers into being 'good people?' If we think about Light as being preoccupied with the criminal-justice side of life, what kind of Geass might he get that isn't 'kill whoever' but doesn't require eye-to-eye contact? |

| I think that the Death Note is a much powerful weapon than the Geass, so i'm not even sure if Light would have used it for killing the criminals and rebuilding a new world. After alll, Geass can be used on a person only once, and it would have been too risky for him to use it like the Death Note. He would have obviously used it for influencing people though. On the other hand, if Lelouch had gotten the Death Note, he would have been practically invincible, because unlike L, there is no character in Code Geass who has that much intelligence. |
