Oh no!! Before you become hopelessly addicted (like me!!) maybe you should run away first! haha. Ok. I'm kidding. I love manga and anime and I welcome you to this world of ours. Just be prepared to be addicted =D =D

Anyways, since I don't know what genres you are interested in, I'm not really sure what to recommend to you. My suggestion on something you can do is to click on the link to manga directory, go to search options and pick the genre(s) that you are interested in. Just clicking search after that would give you a list of the available manga that you might like. Some of these manga also have corresponding animes so you can watch them too =D However, sometimes animes don't always exactly follow the storyline of the manga but the major events would all be there.

That being said though, here are a list of some of my personal favourites.
==>Ouran High School Host Club (SUPER FUNNY!!! Sweet, one of the more unique main female character. Romance in the later part of the manga. Not so much of romance in the anime but still great to watch)

==> Prince of Tennis ( Sports manga/anime. Fun watch with interesting characters. Have really funny special episodes. No real romance, but there is a female character that a lot of fans like to consider as the love interest of the main character.)

==> Eyeshield 21 (Another sports manga/anime about American Football players. One of the ongoing themes is the growth and development of the main character. Teamwork, self-discovery but done in a rather light-hearted way.)

==> Lovely Complex ( One of my more recent favourites. Romance manga/anime about a tall girl and a short guy. Very cute, very sweet, very likable characters. The main female character is also not very typical.)

==> Shugo Chara ( The characters are rather young but I think it appeals to people of almost all ages. Very cute story and characters. The anime episodes available online is a bit faster (in terms of storyline) than the manga chapters though. I'm actually watching the anime more than reading the manga.

==> Gakuen Alice (the anime covers a rather limited part of the whole story but it was still brilliant to watch. I suggest you watch the anime first then read the manga coz the manga chapters that are available mostly skips over those parts that have been covered in the anime. It's a very sweet/cute/adorable story with a much stronger sense of romance later on in the manga. There are hints of it in the anime too though.

==> Bleach ( with violence and fighting scenes. However, it seems to be one of those essential manga/anime that practically everybody has watched at least once. I actually do like it a lot. haha.)

==> Naruto ( Similar to Bleach in that it is one of those anime/manga everybody has watched/read at least once. It's about ninjas so expect violence and fighting.)

==> Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn ( the main character of this manga/anime is in a lot of ways similar to the main character of Eyeshield 21 (at least to me). It is sort off about the mafia so also expect violence and fighting scenes. Funny to watch although a bit perverted at times. Not really perverted perverted ah, just that some parts of it is really dumb. Will understand what I mean if you watch the anime/read the manga. The characters are pretty interesting though.

==> La Corda D'Oro Prima Passo ( A music anime/manga. Same as Shugo Chara, available anime episodes seem to be faster then available manga chapters. Something like that. Really very nice to watch especially if you like music and musical instruments.)

Ok. So i've given a list of 10 manga/anime that I enjoy reading/watching. 5 of them (number 2,3,7,8,9) are shonen manga/anime (for boys, but usually actively read/watched by girls as well. I'm a girl by the way....) while the other 5 (1,4,5,6,10) are shoujo manga/anime (written mainly for girls). Do take note though that the main storyline of most of these manga/anime is still not complete yet. While the anime may be "complete", the original storyline as written in the manga is not complete yet. The only exceptions are Prince of Tennis and Lovely Complex. However, we still do not have access to all the chapters of Lovely Complex yet.

I hope my super long post helped you out to get started somehow or other! And really, explore your own interest by checking out the available manga on this site through the manga directory section.

Well, it really depends on what type of genre you are into. Start first with manga/anime that catches your attention and continue on from there. That's how I did it^^

Hmm...Well this really wouldn't be my area of expertise since I've been an otaku as long as I can remember. I haven't read it but I hear Gintama is pretty good. Bleach is alright and deathnote would also be a good place to start. Inuyasha is good too. I do like yoai's occasionally, but I wouldn't get into those quite yet. If you want to though, Loveless is a good yoai.
