| Sorry if this topic has been made before, I think it's pretty common but I scrolled through the first five pages and couldnt' find it n___n;; SO. When you're reading a manga, does the storyline or the drawing style matter more to you? Which do you look for first? For me, I honestly prefer the drawing style more. I've tried reading mangas that don't have a style I particularly like and even though my friend claimed it was an excellent manga... I couldn't continue because the icky drawings were just too distracting @__@;; You guys? |

| I'd say both, but if you can't choose both I'd say the best one would be the storyline, who would want to waste their time on a not so clear story plot? I heard a lot of rants at fanfiction.net about good plots, saying that it was a waste of time to read a unclear plot, random and non-understandable writing, more over all, money is hard to earn right now, why waste for a non-understandable good looking manga that doesn't give you good education when you can choose a more suitable one, understandable, good looking, educational and more so ever enjoyable to read. ![]() I've read 1990's - 2002's manga and I ranted a lot of how.... I compare them to our current and the old ones, but now, I guess the good looks isn't necessary its just like comparing one person from another, either the kind, caring and the one that really loves you, or the one you just likes you because of your good looks and your money. ![]() The content is what matters for me. ![]() EDITTED: Spelled something wrong. "I heard a lot of rants at fanfiction.net about storyplots that are not good enough, saying that it was a waste of time to read a unclear plot, random and non-understandable writing Sorry for the my error and for confusing you as well. m(_ _)m

| Well, the drawing style is one of the aspects that attracts the reader and along with an awesome storyline made up an absolutely, definitely, exactly almost perfect manga.. If i were to choose, i'll pick the drawing style. Well, i really don't care about the storyline (kinda).

| The Otter Overlord | I first read the description and look at the cover art. If either one draws my attention I'll start reading. I usually go through at least one chapter before I make my decision on whether or not to continue reading. If the art sucks so bad it distracts me from the story, I stop reading, no matter how good a story if the drawings suck I can't read it. If the story sucks and the drawings good, I'll usually try reading it a little more and if it still doesn't pick up or get better I stop reading.

| ~Alice Dreams Staff~ | Yes, me too. I want both are good, but I still care about drawing style more than the storyline. If the soryline is good but I don't like the drawings, I will never read it.

| 1st Ranked Hot Bitch | personally it's all for the storyline AND the artstyle for me. As an artist, not haveing a good art style pisses me off so much... but what keeps the reader reading is the story, and many a time i have put down mangas because i just got bored. Good artstyle or not...

| I'd have to say the storyline is more important. I mean, yeah you can forget a lot in a crappy storyline if the art is good, but will the art alone keep you reading a bad story? However, if the storyline is great, the art isn't as important as soon as you get into the story. ![]() ![]() |

| Storyline by far. Who wants to read a shitty story just because the art is good? Thats nothing but eye candy. Story is more important to me. As long as the art is clean and neat and I know whats going on, I dont mind. But I dont want to make my eyes bleed trying to figure what Im looking at. Hana Yori Dango and Miriam dont have great art styles but they are a great read. At first I used to judge based on art but not anymore. |

| Its true, the art counts, but ever tried reading a doujinshi with a crappy plot? Well, I tried reading a good looking doujinshi with a unclear plot, I can't stand the plot, I don't understand anything, I wasted 5 mins. in downloading it just for what? A good looking drawings? The plot was absolutely weird, unclear, and random, that was a waste of effort and time to read the crappy plot. Hana Yori Dango has a neat plot. Thats why its nice to read. ![]()

| Rogue Angel | Drawing style, because if the art sucks, then I wont be able to read/watch far enough to enjoy the story. I prefer to look at good pictures so even if I cant understand or show any interest in the story, at least I will have something to keep me busy. Unless its like a book then it wont matter..
