I think it would be better if somebody would make like 5-10 different backgrounds of some of the most popular characters, and then let the members choose for themselves. An example is the scanning group Solaris-SVU, and then a new one doesn't need to be made every week/month or whatever. And then whoever makes them can take suggestions for new backgrounds on a thread, and make them at their leisure instead of having a deadline.

Post a sticky in Artists Haven asking if anybody has good photoshop skills and would they be willing to try making some backgrounds. Then give any good backgrounds if there are any to the administrators to work into the sites code.

or we can make a new section about contest, it kind like private section only for moderator and adminstartors (so only admin who can post in there), and if there is a contest like mascot character, the contestant can just send you a pm for their drawing and after the admin receive enough drawing they can make a selction about 5 or 10 the best drawing and after that they can just put it in the thread and open the thread for the public and the member can begin to vote

We can also have a vote on some of the most popular mangas and categorize it like ten manga charaters for each group to even it out like for the Shoujo genres get 10 mangas and get some of the main characters in there and have a contest for like one day and get the winner out fast and you get 10 characters in each category and the admins can just randomly pick one for a month or more

I think that mangafox is big enough now that we would have several people with enough skill who would love to have their work used as the site's header.
If all else fails, a scanlation group normally has people who are skilled with that sort of thing and they might do it if you advertised them.

Edit: Oh yeah, maybe a change of color too. The green orange and white are fine, but I'd like to see some blue.

You could advertise a contest for mangafox's mascot on the front page and make a sticky thread for it in the Artists Haven Forum, I'm pretty sure you'd get some really good results (probably mixed with some not so good ones too)
