Ritsuka, an only child, constantly suffers from physical violence at the hands of his mother. At least when his older brother was alive, he had shielded him from their mother’s abuse from time to time. But with him now dead, Ritsuka has to face the wrath of his mother all alone…
One of the reasons why his mother treats him so is because Ritsuka had lost all his memories a few years prior, and now has a totally different personality. So in essence, he is now a totally different person – with different tastes, likes and dislikes, and his mother can’t stand that – constantly longing for the “old” Ritsuka back. But his brother didn’t see him like that, he treated him lovingly and spoiled him as much as he could, but that’s all changed now…
There had always been a mystery surrounding Seimei’s (Ritsuka’s brother’s) death, and as to who had really killed him, and why. One day, a guy named Soubi appears outside his school, informing Ritsuka that he is Seimei’s friend. He tells him that prior to his death, Seimei had assigned him to look after his little brother. Vowing to find the culprits behind the murder of his brother, Ritsuka teams up with Soubi and finds that he is now Soubi’s “master”, and Soubi, in effect, is his “slave”. Together, they fight many magical battles, comprising not of weapons, but of beautifully crafted words that tug at the heartstrings. In battles, Soubi constantly fights for Ritsuka – becoming his knight in shinning armor for a change. But why is it during battles, when Soubi is bloody and bruised, does he constantly tell Ritsuka these endearing words: “I love you”? Especially when Soubi had already informed him that Ritsuka’s true name is “Loveless”? How can a person, who is named Loveless, be loved?
